Zig Ziglar set the gold standard for motivational speakers.  He taught millions not only to be better in sales, but to be better in life.  An authentic Christian who shared his faith naturally and frequently, Zig Ziglar is a hero in our family.

Zig died on Wednesday at 86 years old.  Thank you Zig for the extraordinary life you lived.  You and your family have blessed our family in so many ways.

My husband has been a tape junkie (now an iPod junkie), listening to Zig’s sales and motivational seminars for decades.  When we get down about work or family life, we just listen to some Zig to regain a positive perspective.

No doubt my kids will hear a lot of Zig Ziglar before they leave the home as young adults.  It made my day when my son Ethan (8) quoted Zig Ziglar at breakfast:

“There’s never a traffic jam on the extra mile.”

Ha!  Isn’t that great?

Here are some other favorite quotes from Zig that have helped us greatly in goal planning:

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

You can have anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.

There is little you can learn from doing nothing.

Expect the best.  Prepare for the worst.  Capitalize on what comes.

If you aim at nothing, you will hit everytime!

I don’t think James or I would be the same people we are today without the influence of Zig Ziglar.  Thank you Zig for cheering us on and showing us that attitude makes a big difference.  You have modeled the right kind of success in life!
