photoIt was an ordinary day.

But then I had a thought.  I remembered something that Bill Farrel had said to me when I was interviewing him for 31 Days to a Happy Husband.

“Anything you can do to make life simpler connects to your man’s heart and makes him feel like you were the right choice.”

What could I do, on that ordinary day, to make my husband’s life simpler?

A few years ago, we bought a Jacuzzi on Craigslist.  I still remember that funny conversation James had with the seller.

“Does it leak?”

“Oh, that will be the least of your problems!”

But even with that, we became the proud owners of this beautiful Jacuzzi.  And believe it or not, it’s still stays hot and retains water.

Which brings me back to the simpler life.

We were getting ready to get into the Jacuzzi after putting the kids to bed.  I know that sounds dreamy, but to be honest, I didn’t really feel like the inconvenience of getting into a bathing suit.  Getting ready for bed sounded much cozier.

But how could I make my husband’s life simpler?

By joining him in the Jacuzzi cheerfully.  I filled his cup with water and walked out to the Jacuzzi with a smile.  After cooking for several minutes in the hot tub, it was time to get out.

Back in the house, I shut the windows, locked the doors.  Put the cup in the dishwasher.

These were little things, but they were things that my husband usually does.  Although my actions were miniscule, they were motivated by the thought of making my husband’s life simpler.

And that’s what made them special.

You see, you don’t have to always do something grand to touch your husband’s heart.  It may be a 30-second backrub, a cup of cold water, a lingering kiss…anything to say “I care about you and I want to make your life simpler.”

It might be biting your tongue instead of saying something critical.

It might be changing your tone from exasperated to relatively calm.

It might be praying for your husband when you know he needs it.

What can you do to make your husband’s life simpler today?
