You remember that song by Aretha Franklin…

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Find out what it means to me

Well, respect means a whole lot to our husbands.  So much so, that I devoted a section of my book 31 Days to a Happy Husband to respect.

When I was talking about the subject of respect in marriage with a woman’s group, one mom talked to me afterwards.  What she said was so insightful that I must share.

I thought I did really well in the area of respect, so I wasn’t worried when you started talking about it.  But as you shared the stories about you and the kids and your husband, I realized I wasn’t respecting my husband when it came to his parenting.  I figure I know more about the kids, so I don’t really let him lead in that area.

I think it’s an important aha for mothers to realize, “I really need to let my husband lead the way as a parent to our kids.”  Since moms tend to be more involved in the day-to-day routines with the kids, we can feel like we should be the ones calling the shots.  But that’s not how the family is wired.

Of course we moms give very important counsel to our husbands.  We are influential to say the least.  But when a family decision needs to be made, does the buck stop with you or your husband?

I have given a 5-part audio course based on my book 31 Days to a Happy Husband.  You can listen to the entire course for free when you pre-order the book online.

Here’s a sample from Session 2 about respect to get you started about giving your husband the R-E-S-P-E-C-T he deserves!
